Horror Movie Podcast Ep. 124: The Horror Movies of Stephen King – Part 1 (1976 – 1996)

HMP Stephen King Horror Part 1

You may know him as Richard Bachman. Or you might know him as John Swithen. But most people know him as horror novelist Stephen King, a master literary chiller who is perhaps the most prolific and influential writer of modern horror fiction. Episode 124 of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST is Part 1 of a two-part series about Stephen King Horror Movie Adaptations.

In Part 1 we briefly discuss horror movies and horror mini series that were adapted from the written works of Stephen King, covering releases from 1976 through 1996. (In our next episode we’ll cover from 1997 through 2017, culminating with our Feature Review of “The Dark Tower.”) But in this show, we bring you four Feature Reviews of Christine (1983) and Graveyard Shift (1990) and Needful Things (1993) and Thinner (1996). Jay of the Dead, Wolfman Josh and Dr. Shock are joined by special guest Gillman Joel Robertson of Universal Monsters Cast and Retro Movie Geek podcasts. This episode is a must-listen if you’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies… Join us!

HMP 93 Pokemon Go Clown Carnage Park

Shhhh… They’re listening. (Not you guys, but “Them.”) Beware, this is not a secure connection … Therefore, these show notes are written in code … Plus, I can’t type as well with this Pikachu standing on my arm… Welcome to Episode 093 of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, where we’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies… In this wacky, paranoid Frankensteinian episode, you’ll hear Feature Reviews of Clown (2016) and Carnage Park (2016).

In this episode you’ll also hear Jay of the Dead have a paranoid meltdown about so-called “conspiracies,” such as Pokémon Go, chemtrails and creepy Google Maps images. To help us clown around with these discussions, we introduce a first-time appearance from special guest Riva the Ripper! Poor Wolfman Josh is along for the whole ride, but Dr. Shock was lucky is only implicated in a short segment in this episode. We also bring you a sneak peek review of Rob Zombie’s 31 (2016), courtesy of Kagan Breitenbach, HMP listener from SLC who saw the film at Sundance back in January. And it if that was enough creepy clown talk, we also talk some trash about the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Join us (unless you’re already with Them)! Continue reading

You’re listening to HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, where we’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies… In Episode 086, our Elder God, Jay of the Dead, is absent while our Outer God, Wolfman Josh, and The Great Old One, Dr. Shock, improvise with an introduction to one of history’s most influential names in horror: H.P. Lovecraft. Nearly Lovecraft-illiterate themselves, Dave and Josh welcome horror scholar Carl Sederholm to the podcast to talk about the influence of H.P. Lovecraft on contemporary horror as well as tease his new book, The Age of Lovecraft. Dave and Josh also review three of the most prominent Lovecraft adaptations, all from Director Stuart Gordon and Writer Dennis Paoli, Re-Animator (1985), Castle Freak (1995) and Dagon (2001).

HMP Sidebar ScienceEpisode 041 is another horror-themed episode of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, where we’re dead serious about horror movies… This week we’re exploring Dr. Shock’s theme which is WHEN SCIENCE GOES TOO FAR! (Thunder clapping sounds here)

Even though this episode only has two in-depth Feature Reviews, namely Altered States (1980) and The Fly (1986), we still have other discussions relating to our theme that we think you’ll enjoy. And of course, we reference many films during the course of the episode.

And as excited as we are about this theme, we are even more excited to have the honor to introduce writer, musician and science fiction / horror aficionado Matt Daniels (aka “Mattroid” aka “Gary the Unicorn”), who is a Masterful guest!
