This is the episode you’ve been requesting… That’s right, for Episode 015 of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, we’ve brought you a reunion of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast hosts, including Dr. Shock, Midnight Corey, BillChete and a short visit from Terror Tovey. And just like our usual TWHMP format, we give you in-depth reviews of four films: “Berberian Sound Studio” (2013), “The Invisible Man” (1933), “Twins of Evil” (1971) and “Dear God No!” (2011). We also give you a BONUS review of “Stage Fright” (2014).

Then for the latter portion of this episode, Jay of the Dead is joined by The Unknown Murderer of Terror Troop for a Feature Review of “The Quiet Ones,” which is new in theaters this weekend. All this and more in Episode 015 of Horror Movie Podcast, where we’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies. Continue reading

Horror Metropolis Ep. 010: Slasher U

HM 010 ArtworkBRIEF EXPLANATION: This podcast is not the Horror Movie Podcast for which this site and feed are dedicated. Horror Movie Podcast is slated to release Episode 001 on October 25, 2013. You can read the full explanation and the background on the re-release of Horror Metropolis (and of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast) at the bottom of the show notes for this episode.

SHOW NOTES:

In what ended up being the final episode of Horror Metropolis, we took on each other and Dr. Shock’s theme, which was “Slasher U.” Jay of the Dead here, admitting to you up front, that upon revisiting this episode for this re-release, even I must confess that I annoyed myself with how relentless I was while bickering over “The Dorm that Dripped Blood” (1982). So, I just want to apologize and tell you up front, I’m sorry for all the beating of dead horses…

But despite my redundant persistence, Episode 010 is still an excellent show because we also review “The House on Sorority Row” (1983) with special guest LEXI-WISE, a horror-lovin’ gal from Salt Lake City. This final episode is a great one. Thanks for listening.

Horror Metropolis is hosted by Jay of the Dead, along with his co-hosts BillChete, Dr. Shock, Terror Tovey and Wolfman Josh. Continue reading

SHOW NOTES:

In Episode 009 of Horror Metropolis, BillChete chose the theme “Foreign Vampires.” And to help us cover these vamps, Jay of the Dead commissioned a cool horror chick and singer-songwriter from Michigan named COLE SLAUGHTER. First we review a German, action-horror flick called “We Are the Night” (2010), as well as Guillermo del Toro’s feature film directorial debut “Cronos” (1993), an unconventional take on the vampire flick.

This episode is dedicated to our friend, Boss Butcher, vampire slayer — domestic and foreign…

Horror Metropolis Ep. 005: Houses of Horror

HM 005 ArtworkBRIEF EXPLANATION: This podcast is not the Horror Movie Podcast for which this site and feed are dedicated. Horror Movie Podcast is slated to release Episode 001 on October 25, 2013. You can read the full explanation and the background on the re-release of Horror Metropolis (and of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast) at the bottom of the show notes for this episode.

SHOW NOTES:

Episode 005 of Horror Metropolis is one of the very best of its short run of 10 episodes. You’ve got the classic crew — Jay of the Dead, BillChete, Dr. Shock and Terror Tovey — battling as usual. In this episode we examine Terror Tovey’s theme, HOUSES OF HORROR, by reviewing Uwe Boll’s “House of the Dead” and Ti West’s “The House of the Devil.”

In Episode 005, we also announce the addition of a brand-new official co-host — Wolfman Josh, whom you first heard during Episode 003. At the end of this show, you’ll hear Jay of the Dead discuss a Meet-Up in 2013 at the Run for Your Life Zombie 5k in Atlanta… Unfortunately, that never came together and did not pan out, but Jay still plans to put something like this together — maybe in 2014! Cross your fingers…

Horror Metropolis BONUS Ep. 004: Chernobyl Diaries

HM 004 ArtworkBRIEF EXPLANATION: This podcast is not the Horror Movie Podcast for which this site and feed are dedicated. Horror Movie Podcast is slated to release Episode 001 on October 25, 2013. You can read the full explanation and the background on the re-release of Horror Metropolis (and of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast) at the bottom of the show notes for this episode.

SHOW NOTES:

When this episode was first released, Jay of the Dead was attempting to deliver the most up-to-date content. “Chernobyl Diaries” had just been released in theaters, and Jay wanted to review it, even though none of his Horror Metropolis co-hosts had seen it yet. So, this special BONUS episode is a solo-cast of Jay of the Dead (his first ever), and it’s actually a pretty entertaining episode. Naturally, the DVD contest mentioned during this re-release is now expired. But you can still see the Chernobyl “Octopus-Puppy” that Jay describes by clicking here (not for the faint of heart). Also in this episode, Jay discusses a few horror trailers that were in theaters at the time. And these trailers are also linked below. This episode is dedicated to Bjorn.

Horror Metropolis Ep. 003: Silent Horror

HM 003 ArtworkBRIEF EXPLANATION: This podcast is not the Horror Movie Podcast for which this site and feed are dedicated. Horror Movie Podcast is slated to release Episode 001 on October 25, 2013. You can read the full explanation and the background on the re-release of Horror Metropolis (and of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast) at the bottom of the show notes for this episode.

SHOW NOTES:

Modesty be damned — this might be the most interesting podcast you’ll ever hear about silent-era horror films. Seriously, it has to be in the Top 5 — a must-listen episode. Thanks to Dr. Shock, in Episode 003 we review F.W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” (1922) and a Scandinavian silent film called “Häxan” (aka “Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages”), also from 1922. And even though BillChete is absent for this episode, we’re proud to bring you special guest WOLFMAN JOSH, the co-director of a film called “Cleanflix,” and a co-host with Jay of the Dead on Movie Podcast Weekly. You can read the full explanation and the background on the re-release of Horror Metropolis (and of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast) at the bottom of the show notes for this episode.

SHOW NOTES:

For Horror Metropolis, Episode 002, BillChete has chosen the theme of “Freaky Mannequins.” Unfortunately, BillChete himself and Terror Tovey were unable to record this episode with us, but we’re happy to welcome Horror Metropolis’s first special guest HADDONFIELD HATCHET of the Land of the Creeps horror movie podcast. And for those who are familiar with Land of the Creeps and GregaMortis… Jay of the Dead asks who is a bigger fan of John Carpenter’s “Halloween” (1978) — Haddonfield Hatchet or GregaMortis?

Also during this episode, you’ll get an unexpected mini review of “The Cabin in the Woods.” We also review a spoof of Hammer horror called “Carry on Screaming” (1966) and a memorable horror flick from 1979 called “Tourist Trap” (1979). And obviously, since this episode is a re-release, the DVD give-away mentioned during this show has long since expired. Horror Metropolis is hosted by Jay of the Dead, along with his co-hosts BillChete, Dr. Shock and Terror Tovey. Continue reading
